In this tuning guide, we will explain how Toyota A90 Supra suspension upgrades unlock more handling performance.
Sharing a front engine/rear-wheel-drive platform with the BMW G29 Z4, the A90 Supra suffers from the same mid-corner understeer, compromised suspension geometry, and traction issues under power. There is also less steering feel than you might expect from a sports car.
In this Supra upgrade guide, we’ll share our expert knowledge of the MkV Supra suspension and cover the common complaints about its chassis. We'll also reveal which suspension parts cure handling issues, and detail the best suspension package for fast road and track driving.
A90 Supra Suspension & Handling Overview
The fifth-generation Toyota Supra made its full debut in January 2019. Featuring a shorter wheelbase but larger wheels and tyres than the GT86, the Supra was initially offered with a 3.0L straight-six turbo engine (340hp) and eight-speed automatic transmission. A 2.0L four-cylinder (258hp) automatic model went on sale in 2020. The 3.0L gained a six-speed manual option from mid-2022.
The A90 Supra suspension comprises a MacPherson front strut and multi-link rear setup with adaptive dampers all-round like that found on the BMW G29 Z4. As standard, the 3.0L model runs on 19-inch wheels (with 255/35R19 front and 275/35R19 rear tyres) while the 2.0L is equipped with 18-inch wheels (255/40R18 front and 275/40R18 rear tyres). Unfortunately, the A90 Supra is also equipped with the Z4’s oil-filled bushings that cause unwanted flex and geometry changes during hard driving.
A90 Supra Suspension Limitations
Despite sharing a platform with BMW’s G29 Z4, the MkV Supra boasts its own design of lower control arms, which allow slightly more aggressive camber and caster settings to be achieved. The Supra also features unique calibration of its Variable Damper Control (VDC) system, prioritising a sportier feel over outright comfort.
However, as mentioned earlier, we have found that these changes do not eradicate fundamental weaknesses in the A90 Supra chassis…
Common criticisms of the A90 Supra chassis include:
- Lack of steering and chassis feedback
- Firm ride quality does not translate to sharp handling
- Significant rear instability during compressions and unloading
- Rear toe adjustment compromised by the addition of more negative camber
- Excessive body roll during fast cornering
The good news is these handling issues can be resolved with bolt-on Supra suspension upgrades from Suspension Secrets.
Common Handling Problems (And How to Fix Them)
The A90 Supra suspension upgrades detailed in this guide allow you to achieve the following…
A90 Supra Suspension Fixes
1. Increase front camber and reduce understeer
2. Increase steering weight and feedback
3. Lower the centre of gravity and reduce body roll
4. Improve rear axle kinematics and increase traction and stability
5. Improve overall ride quality
With these changes implemented, we can confirm the A90 Supra will offer a much more inspiring driving experience. It will turn into corners more eagerly and and also generate more grip mid-turn with less understeer. The following suspension upgrades will also reduce rear axle squirming under braking and throttle application, boosting driver confidence.
Toyota A90 Supra Suspension Geometry & Alignment Setup (Top Tip)
A full suspension geometry alignment is essential after installing new suspension parts. It even makes a substantial difference to the behaviour of stock components.
By correctly adjusting camber, toe, and caster (where available), alignment ensures you maximise grip, stability, and tyre life.
Benefits of Professional A90 Supra Geometry Setup
- Sharper steering response
- Increased cornering grip
- Improved rear traction
- Enhanced braking stability
A professional alignment is the single most cost-effective handling upgrade you can make.
Essential Suspension Upgrades for Toyota A90 Supra
This section covers Toyota A90 Supra suspension upgrades that are a great first step for unlocking more handling performance on the road and track.
These upgrades are included in the full Suspension Secrets A90 Supra Kinematics Kit (described later in this guide) which comprises fully adjustable arms and solid bushes for maximum on-track performance.
Adjustable Camber & Caster Plates
The best way to reduce understeer or front-end push on the A90 Supra is by dialling in more negative camber on the front axle. However, it is not possible to achieve adequate suspension settings using stock components.
That’s where Suspension Secrets Adjustable Camber & Caster Plates come in. These bolt-on parts allow additional negative camber to be dialled into the chassis, significantly improving front-end grip and response, while enhancing steering feel.
Why Camber Plates Matter on the A90 Supra
- Reduce understeer
- Sharpen turn-in
- Increase steering feedback
- Improve tyre wear on track
Suspension Secrets camber plates also increase caster angle, providing dynamic camber gain as steering lock is applied. High-performance Rodobal bearings improve damper response, while toothed adjustment slots prevent settings from slipping under hard use.
These camber plates work perfectly with standard dampers, lowering springs or coilovers.
Adjustable Rear Toe Arms
With the Supra’s front grip improved by camber plates (described above), attention must turn to the A90’s rear axle.
During extensive road and track testing, we identified rear toe instability as the main cause of traction loss and rear-end nervousness. These issues are caused by the OEM soft rubber bushes integrated into the stock toe arms, which flex during fast driving.
Suspension Secrets Adjustable Rear Toe Arms offer:
- Greater adjustment range than OEM arms
- Independent optimisation of camber and toe
- Solid mounting to eliminate flex under load
Unlike the rubber‑bushed factory arms, our solid-mounted rear toe arms maintain consistent geometry during acceleration and high-speed cornering.
This upgrade alone will transform how the A90 Supra feels during braking, mid-corner and at corner-exit with throttle applied.
Solid Front Control Arm Bushes
One big reason why the A90 Supra lacks cornering precision is the extensive use of rubber bushes in its suspension.
Two of these can be found in the front control arms - a critical area for handling performance. The Supra’s front control arm bushes are made of soft rubber housed within an oil-filled liner. During hard driving, these bushes flex and dramatically change front suspension geometry. This causes the Supra’s vague feeling front end, and contributes to the car’s instability during braking.
The solution is our Suspension Secrets Solid Front Control Arm Bushes, which are designed as press-fit replacements for the OEM bushes. Their solid construction and high-grade bearings eliminate flex with minimal impact on Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) making them ideal for use on the road (and track).
Benefits of solid front control arm bushes:
- Increased braking stability
- Improved steering feel and accuracy
- Reduced understeer
- Increased sense of connection to the road
Combined with front camber plates, adjustable rear toe arms and a full suspension geometry alignment, these solid bushes will make your A90 Supra handle on an entirely new level.
Lowering Springs & Coilovers
Lowering springs and coilover suspension upgrades dramatically reduce body roll and improve the handling performance of Toyota’s MkV Supra. The drop in ride height provided by these aftermarket upgrades also improves the Supra’s road stance and kerb appeal.
The Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs supplied by Suspension Secrets reduce the Supra’s front and rear ride heights by 20mm. This lowering of the car’s centre of gravity reduces body roll experienced mid-corner, and also reduces diving under braking for more stable and predictable handling performance.
For A90 Supra owners wanting to take their suspension a stage further and enhance on-track performance, we recommend KW V3 coilovers. This system offers independent adjustment of bump/compression and rebound settings, allowing fine-tuning of the Supra’s ride and handling on the road and track. The compression setting affects body roll, while rebound adjustments affect wheel movement and overall vehicle stability.
Lowering Springs or Coilovers?
Eibach Lowering Springs benefits
- Budget-friendly upgrade for improved stance and handling
- Factory ride quality largely unchanged
- Simple to install but no damping adjustability
KW V3 Coilovers benefits
- Fully adjustable ride height and compression/rebound settings
- Provides more control when driving on track
- Higher cost, and setup required after installation
To summarise, lowering springs are more affordable and provide a nice reduction in ride height, as well as a noticeable handling improvement. While more expensive coilovers provide even greater handling performance, and offer more tuning options for keen drivers.
Adjustable Rear Camber Arms
Applying more negative camber to the Supra's rear wheels improves handling. With the stock setup, during fast cornering the outer rear wheel will roll off the tyre contact patch at the inside edge, reducing overall grip. With more negative camber applied, the tyres makes fuller contact with the road surface during hard cornering, boosting grip levels.
The Suspension Secrets Adjustable Rear Camber Arms provide far more adjustment than the stock parts, allowing more negative camber to be applied for fast road and track driving. A90 Supra adjustable rear camber arms also allow camber corrections after lowering the ride height.
Suspension Secrets Adjustable Rear Camber Arms:
- More cornering grip and stability
- Wider range of rear camber adjustment
- Reduced tyre wear
- Improved mid-corner and corner-exit traction
- Maximise potential of semi-slick and slick tyres
Additional rear camber improves mid-corner grip, handling stability and chassis balance. Fast drivers will also notice improvements to tyre life as the wear pattern is more even and consistent.
If you're planning to unlock track camber settings with this upgrade, you'll also need Adjustable Rear Upper Third Links/Arms explained below...
Adjustable Rear Upper Third Links

When setting track levels of camber at the rear axle of the A90 Supra using adjustable upper rear camber arms (as described above), this increases tension in the non-adjustable factory third links.
The Suspension Secrets Adjustable Rear Upper Third Link Arms reduce this tension by providing a greater range of camber adjustment, allowing for the safe adjustment - and increase of - negative rear camber.
Rear Upper Third Link Arms benefits:
- Significantly increase cornering grip and stability
- Wider range of camber adjustment than stock
- Reduces binding of ball joints and bearings
- Improves mid-corner and corner-exit traction
This A90 Supra suspension upgrade is the perfect addition to cars running semi-slick and full slick tyres.
Adjustable Rear Traction Arms
As well as improving mid-corner grip with more negative camber dialled into the chassis, you can also improve traction by fitting Suspension Secrets Adjustable Rear Traction Arms.
MkV Supra traction arm benefits
- Enhances acceleration
- Improves straight-line stability
- Increases rear axle response to throttle inputs
- Reduces toe angle changes
- Increases corner exit speeds
Unlike the stock traction arms that use soft rear bushes, our adjustable rear traction arms for the A90 Supra are solidly mounted and do not flex. This means more stable and consistent handling performance on the road and track.
Solid Rear Control Arm Bushes

- Increases rear axle stability
- Improves sense of connection to rear axle
- Increases cornering grip
- More precise handling
3-Way Coilovers
Moton 3-way coilovers, Nitron R3 coilovers and KW V4 Clubsport systems are adjustable in high- and low-speed compression, rebound and ride height. In a nutshell, 3-way adjustable coilovers allow you to control grip level, chassis balance, comfort level and stability - independently of each other. This is why they're used in professional motorsport.
How 3-way Coilovers Work
These MkV Supra 3-way coilovers will keep the car planted on corner exit, with gains in rear traction and a reduction in snap oversteer. Upgraded coilovers also reduce excessive body pitching during fast driving, and sharpen turn-in response. Tuned correctly, aftermarket Toyota Supra coilovers also absorb surface imperfections and kerbs much more effectively than the stock setup.
Front Offset Caster Bushes

- Increased cornering grip
- Enhanced steering feel thanks to increased positive caster
- Improved braking stability and steering accuracy
- Run maximum camber on adjustable top mounts with no wheelarch liner contact
As well as improving steering feel and communication, the caster angle generated by our solid front caster bushes increases the level of dynamic camber gained as the steering wheel is turned. This further reduces understeer and improves turn-in response.

Toyota A90 Supra Suspension FAQs
Why does the A90 Supra feel unstable in fast corners?
The stock suspension uses soft, oil-filled rubber bushes that flex under load. This changes wheel alignment mid-corner, causing understeer, vague steering, and rear-end movement.
What’s the quickest way to improve front-end grip?
Adding adjustable camber and caster plates increases negative camber, which gives the front tyres better contact with the road. This sharpens turn-in and reduces understeer immediately.
Why does the rear of the car feel nervous under power?
Factory rear toe arms flex when accelerating or braking. Upgrading to solid adjustable arms keeps the wheels aligned, improving traction and stability.
Are lowering springs enough, or should I go coilovers?
Lowering springs improve stance and reduce body roll at low cost. Coilovers offer far better control and adjustability for serious fast-road or track driving - especially systems from KW Automotive.
Is suspension alignment really that important?
Yes - a professional geometry setup unlocks grip, improves tyre life, and transforms handling, even on stock parts. It’s the most cost-effective upgrade you can make.
Developed and manufactured by Suspension Secrets, these A90 Supra suspension upgrades unlock a new level of handling performance.
