In this Audi R8 suspension tuning guide, we'll explain the benefits of fitting Suspension Secrets camber shims and coilovers, and how they improve handling performance.
What Are Camber Shims
Camber Shims are precision engineered parts manufactured in-house from stainless steel. They slot in between the suspension's lower front wishbone and the chassis to increase negative camber. On the Audi R8, the factory suspension does not offer enough negative camber adjustment for our Fast Road and Track geometry settings.
Why Negative Camber Matters
When a car drives around a corner, body roll pulls the inside edges of the outside tyres away from the road surface, reducing grip levels. Negative camber fixes this by ensuring more of the tyre is in contact with the road through a corner.
Suspension with negative camber means:
- Increased cornering speeds and mid-corner grip
- Improved turn-in response and steering precision
- Reduced understeer
- More even tyre wear during fast driving
Our Suspension Secrets Camber Shims for the Audi R8 help distribute cornering forces more evenly across the tyre surface, maximising mechanical grip.

Fitting Audi R8 Camber Shims
Installing our R8 camber shims is very straightforward - simply loosen a few suspension bolts, insert the shims, and retorque the bolts. No maintenance is required after fitment either.
Audi R8 Coilovers
If you want to take your Audi R8 suspension to an entirely new level of sophistication, the next step is full coilovers.
Two-way adjustable systems such as KW V3 Coilovers feature independent compression and rebound adjustment for increased chassis response, reduced body roll, and improved overall balance for road and track driving.
Three-way coilover systems such as these Nitron R3 Coilovers feature low- and high-speed bump adjustment, plus rebound adjustment. Three-way adjustable coilovers allow you to control grip level, chassis balance, comfort level and stability - independently of each other. This high level of adjustability explains why they're a favourite in professional motorsport.
Four-way systems like KW's V5 Coilovers offer Low-speed compression (affects body roll and chassis response to steering/brake inputs), Low-speed rebound (affects how the car settles after load transfer), High-speed compression (helps the car remain stable over bumps/kerbs), and High-speed rebound (supports control over rapid suspension motion at high speed).
R8 Suspension Geometry Alignment
Following installation of camber shims and/or coilovers, we recommend a full suspension geometry alignment.
By correctly adjusting camber, toe, and caster (where available), properly aligned suspension ensures you maximise grip, stability, and tyre life.
Benefits of a Geometry Setup
- Sharper steering response
- Increased cornering grip
- Improved rear traction
- Enhanced braking stability
A professional alignment is the single most cost-effective handling upgrade you can make.
