As standard, the BMW 1M suffers from understeer. This is fundamentally due to a lack of camber at the front axle. Therefore, the only way to fully remove the understeer from the chassis is to increase the camber at the front axle.
Designed, developed and manufactured 100% in house by our team of engineers here at Suspension Secrets, we have created the solution to adding more front axle camber on your 1M with our adjustable camber caster plates. Our camber plates offer multiple different positions to set the camber to, offering setups ideal anywhere from a daily used road car all the way to an all out track car and everything in between.
Our camber plates have also been designed to work directly with your stock suspension system as well as vehicle fitted with lowering springs and any coilover that is designed to work with the OEM top mounts such as a KW V3 coilover. These camber plates also maintain the same bump/droop ratio as the standard top mount and they also do not affect the ride height of the car. They are also supplied with an integrated operate spring platform to allow the spring assembly to rotate independently of the camber plate, similar to the OEM design to prevent any spring bind when in use to ensure you can increase your camber without any negative side effects. Our design also keeps the whole assembly together as a single unit, ensuring installation is as easy as possible.
Increasing the front axle camber reduces understeer by making the tyre work even more effectively through the corners. With the standard camber on the car, the tyre leans outward through the corners, causing the inside edges to lose contact with the road surface. This reduces grip and therefore, introduces understeer into the chassis. With the camber adjusted and set correctly with our camber plates, you are able to lean onto the full tyre through the corner, maximising grip and removing the understeer from the chassis. This not only increases grip but also improves tyre wear when the car is being driven hard.
Whilst developing the 1M chassis our engineers noticed that by adding in a specific amount of caster into the front axle, it improved the steering response and feedback substantially, offering much more engaging and dynamic driving experience which also greatly increases the driver confidence, allowing you push even harder and have even ore fun. Not only does the additional caster improve steering feel, it also increases the dynamic camber gain of the front axle. This means that when you turn the wheels through the corner, the outside wheels gain even more camber for the car to lean onto, increasing cornering grip even further whilst not taking away from the braking traction capabilities of the car, making them an even more effective performance upgrade.
Our rodoball bearings are one of the largest bearings on the market and have been specifically designed into our camber plates to ensure they keep noise to an absolute minimum and prevent any “bearing knock” from occurring when in use. This means that you receive all of the benefits of the spherical bearing such as improved shock absorber response and feedback without having any of the downsides making them the perfect upgrade for road or track use.
As always, our engineers have designed our camber plates to feature our usual key user-friendly features and benefits that are present in our other very popular camber plates. The key features of the Suspension Secrets BMW 1M Competition Adjustable Camber Caster Plates are:
Suspension Secrets' products are designed and manufactured in house in the UK. Our products are made from billet aircraft-grade 6082 T6 aluminium and corrosion-resistant stainless steel. We use motorsport-spec Rodoball Bearings for maximum performance and longevity. Our lifetime warranty also applies to this product which includes the bearings.
Camber
Camber angle is the angle between the plane of a wheel and the vertical. It is described as positive when the top of the wheel leans outward and negative when the top of the wheel leans inward. Camber angle alters the handling characteristics of a suspension system.
Caster
Caster is the measure of how far forward or behind the steering axis is to the vertical axis, viewed from the side. This is measured by drawing a line between the top and bottom pivot points of the front upright. The angle between the drawn line and vertical is the caster angle
All Suspension Secrets upgrades are designed, developed and manufactured in-house. This process includes prototyping new products using CAD and 3D printing technology, and extensive rear-world testing with professional racing drivers. Sophisticated motorsport data capturing equipment allows us to measure the handling performance gains achieved by our parts.
All parts purchased on our website are shipped internationally free of charge. We accept return requests made within 14 days of receipt of the item.
